Pre-race comments

Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) - “I hope it will be hot, as it usually is at Hockenheim. Our car goes really well at high temperatures and also the tyre wear is not too high. So I really hope it will be hot.”
-
Lewis Hamilton - (McLaren Mercedes) - “I think people do say that Ferrari are quicker at certain circuits and at high-speed circuits but I don’t believe that,” Hamilton told radio celebrity Chris Evans. “I think that our car is quick everywhere. Every now and then they seem to be quicker than us, but I think at the moment we’re ahead of them – they‘re on the back foot, especially after last weekend, so we’ve got to keep on hitting them hard and trying to score the points.”
-
Jarno Trulli (Toyota) “We had a promising test last week at Hockenheim, which was very useful because we have not raced there for two years and we had the chance to study set-ups and tyre behaviour. That was the first time we have used the current Bridgestone tyres at Hockenheim and it was important to understand their characteristics at this circuit. We made good progress with some new aero parts and hopefully this track will suit our car. I have finished in the points for the last three races which shows how competitive we are at the moment, so my target this weekend is to again score points and fight for the top six. I am optimistic as usual.”
-

Nico Rosberg (Williams Toyota) “I’ve had a lot of great experiences at Hockenheim, and it’s been the scene for quite a few of my past victories [in the junior formulae], so I’m looking forward to going there. As it’s my home race, it will be nice to have the support of the German fans, but they really provide a great atmosphere for everyone as they are so enthusiastic. In terms of the track itself, I really love it, and it should suit our car as well, but I still think it will be difficult to get into the points on Sunday considering how close the field is. As always, we will just do our best.”
-

Adrian Sutil (Force India) - “Some rain and good strategies will help, for sure, but we have to perform in all conditions. We are not able to race in the midfield at the moment, and we have to improve our car. I think the last [most recent] update is worth about two or three tenths. The car feels quite good, and there is a lot more potential in the new parts. But we have to hope for more rain, although this year there's been quite a lot already! It's sometimes hard, because when it's wet you have to take a chance, and when it doesn't work out, the disappointment is quite big.”

-
Robert Kubica (BMW) - “My approach (to the Championship) is very similar to what it was before. I always try to achieve as many points as possible in a single weekend and to extract the maximum from the car. If your maximum is enough that you are fighting for the championship in the last race, then you think about the championship. But for now I’m taking a race-by-race approach.”
-
Heikki Kovalainen (McLaren Mercedes) - asked in a team preview if he was now beginning to feel at home in the team and car? “In some ways, yes. “For sure, in the dry at Silverstone I couldn’t believe how good the car felt and just how much I could keep pushing it. It felt better than ever. But the race showed I can still do more to improve – both in terms of my driving style and the way the team works with me. I know I have the speed, I just need to work harder to apply it across the whole race weekend.”
-
Felipe Massa (Ferrari) - 3 day Hockenheim test finished on a high the Brazilian setting the pace on Thursday - “It was a good day’s work. We did a lot of kilometres and I have to say the car felt well balanced. This can only mean that we should also be competitive at this track, which is also the case for our main rivals.”

Faultless race by Lewis Hamilton made more exciting by not coming in for his last pit stop when the safety car came out for Glock´s accident caused by rear suspension failure on his Toyota. Well driven race by rookie Nelsinho Piquet, but how much did the strategy of a one stopper benefit him? He did come second though! Don´t knock Felipe Massa and in my opinion is the better of the two drivers at Ferrari. Maybe the car was not as competitive as the McLaren. Yes he did not close the door on Lewis going into the hairpin and so the inevitable happened a lap sooner - could say sensible. The same happened the Nelsinho Piquet a lap later - sensible. Better to pick up points for a 2nd place (Nelsinho Piquet)and 3rd place (Felipe Massa) than risk taking yourself and the overtaking car (Lewis Hamilton) out. NO?
